More about the class
I started this class purely as a traditional barre experience, but it quickly evolved to be a really cool group of women that lift each other up. The community component of this group is TOP NOTCH, and I’m thankful to each and every woman who has shared in making Contour Barre what it is!
Often, at the end of class, we circle up and I lead a casual check in on each other. You are in no way expected to share anything if you’d rather listen and observe. But this is a wonderful way that we have been able to support one another through illnesses, mom life, hard times, good times, tough news, hospital visits, births, deaths etc.
*NOTE* I am a Christian and there are times when we pray together if anyone needs it or if the setting feels right. If you do not feel comfortable with this, please let me know!
FAQ’S
“Do I have to be super fit to start?”
Heck to the no; we have ALL levels in here. It is a challenging workout, but it’s very easy to modify and progress at your own pace.
“What is the age and demographic of the group?”
We have a range from about 18-65, from all different backgrounds, careers and walks of life. It truly is a wide range of ages, which is really enjoyable and says a lot about the diversity of a barre workout.
“What do I need to wear and bring?”
Think normal gym or yoga class for apparel. You are welcome to wear shoes if you’d like, but we use our feet a lot, so bare feet or grip socks work best. You’ll need to bring a mat and a pair of 5 lb weights; I supply things like bands, balls, heavier weights etc. (If you’re just trying a first class or you forget your things, there are always extra mats and weights for you as well.)
“I’m not a dancer, and I’ve never done barre… will I die?!”
Short answer, no, and get your booty in here to beat the fear! Barre is VERY loosely based on ballet positions and terminology, and the most inflexible and uncoordinated do just fine with it. You might feel new to some of the exercises and moving consistently with the music, but it’s surprisingly easy to follow along. (PSA: expect to be sore the next day though, FOR SURE.)
“I’m working through an injury/don’t do well with high impact workouts.”
Perfect. This is basically fun and challenging physical therapy. Everything is low impact and I make sure to offer modifications for pregnancy, wrists and knees.
